Holy cow! Only you Rainy, could make me appreciate my Christmas so much more by this nightmare you offered up. You remind us that we're the ones who must keep the spirit alive, we're the ones who need to inspire generosity and kindness. Heaven help us when the Harleys take over and Blitzen becomes table fare.
whoa RAINY !!!! where the hell did you come up with this ???? i LUV it...........and APPLEMAC,,,,,what's wrong with harleys ????????????? lol
Maybe it's just me, but I found it very disturbing.
I guess that is the different between Canadian and Americans, thoughts are different. I like the actual Rudolf story, more warm and fussy feeling. :)
I rather liked this and I don't think it is because I'm Canadian. It is a reminder that Christmas is too commercial and people selfish. Everything Christmas stood for has been warped including replacing Christ's name with an X. I suppose next year we will have Christmas week so people can buy more stuff. New presents every day for a week.

No wonder Mrs Claus drinks.
"“Old dames like that are only good for target practice.” he muttered sitting in her vacant chair."

That's the difference.  I agree that Christmas isn't what it should be, but there are different ways of expressing it. Just mo.
I fully understand that Christmas has become commercial. What I do not understand is why this post is still up? It does offend. But wait a minute it is bashing Christmas therefore Christianity, it is allowed. There is nothing it in that suggest it is aimed at commercialism. I see no redeeming qualities. I wonder if you substituted the Q'uran as the background for this story, how long it would have remained. Don't even guess, I will tell you.

I guess I really cannot say anything since my own President does not acknowledge the genocide of Christians now taking place in the Middle East. But those that know me understand the need to stand up and be counted for ones beliefs, for- shadows the need to remain silent.

And what's this got to do with anything:

“Listenin' to yer future plans is like bein' force fed a bucket o' Midol.

The family gathered together and discovered the real meaning of Christmas – to plot revenge!

I'm sorry, I just find the whole thing, well, disgusting.  Maybe I should look at it from Applemac's point of view. Maybe I'm missing something.
Sally, I am not religious at all but I just didn't bother to read more than a few lines of this drivel

STARDAISY,, really ??????????? people are people with the same hearts no matter where they are,,,please do not put yourself on a pedestal just cuz you are canadian......
Recently Tony Blair said, when we invaded Iraq in 2004. (He was PM then)
We removed a dictator and found no imaginary Weapons of mass destruction,
He said by doing this, we helped to create a certain group by leaving it as it was,
and we must take responsibility for this,
We here now in Ireland are taking in some of these displaced ppl,
I work with some of these, and the stories are horrendous,
They are just as awful as the stuff that went in our country,
systematic child abuse, mass graves of children buried by members of a religious group,
We thank God that they are now nearly obsolete here, so ppl can worship as they see fit.
And we have learned, Get our own house in order before we tell anyone else,
How to run theirs.
Really and are any of you complainers any better than this storey. I've always found this time of year to bring out the whiners and complainers. As for revenge, how many of you have said "we got such crappy gifts they are getting nothing next year". I've heard that over the years so much I could puke. I'm sure if you look you can find something to bitch about even in Christmas carols. Lord I'd hate to be at your house if everything wasn't perfect. Enough of that, I'm starting to parrot.

A merry Christmas to all from a proud cannuck
Well, in my long years one thing is very true of humans...if they can find something to criticize and judge they will.  Everyone has an opinion on something and everyone thinks they are right.  So here is my opinion and I don't think it is necessarily right but it is mine.  I know Rainy and I know she has the most amazing sense of humour...is quick witted and intelligent.  I respect her.  As far as her story goes I see it as humour, maybe not the kind of humour that some appreciate but in all truthfulness it is humour.  Religious views often get in the way of just seeing true intent.  I know parts of the story may be offensive and in actual fact have been offensive to some folks and I respect their point of view.  But knowing rainy and knowing her humour and knowing her heart I know that she did not write this to upset anyone but to give folks a laugh.  And perhaps she just needed to express some of her own frustration at how materialistic a huge part of our world is.  Whatever the reason I think we should all just sit back...take some deep breaths and not make such a big deal out of something so trivial as someone wanting to write a short story.  Let's appreciate the time we have with our friends, family and our chat pals and let's just be more compassionate people. That is my opinion, my thoughts, and I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas....however you spend it...xxx

Well, that was rude. I don't recall whining or complaining, just stating an opinion which I believe falls under the "freedom of speech" discussion in another thread.

I just don't understand what's behind the story.  I find it offensive to women in some places and just strange but I've never been good at interpreting literature and I hated Shakespeare.

Thank you Fern, however an intelligent person should have known that this kind of story WOULD be offensive to many people. As I recall this is not the first time that Rainy's 'amazing sense of humour' has caused offense.
Having said that I think maybe we should put this to bed now and relax and enjoy the holiday. Now is not the time for stress or bad feelings. If I have given any offense in my turn, I wholeheartedly apologise and wish everyone a very happy Christmas. xx
